Fossil Permits

The Office of State Lands and Investments leases acreage for the discovery and collection of fossils.  There are two kinds of fossil permits, "Exclusive Commercial" and "Non-Exclusive Scientific".  Exclusive Commercial Fossil Removal Permits are awarded to individuals who intended to collect fossils for resale.  Non-Exclusive Scientific Fossil Removal Permits are awarded to qualified individuals who intend to collect specimens for the purpose of scientific display, research, or education.  Fossils collected under a Non-Exclusive Scientific permit are not intended for resale.  All specimens collected under a Non-Exclusive Scientific Fossil Removal Permit are considered on loan by the State of Wyoming and can only leave the State of Wyoming after given written approval by OSLI.

For specific details regarding fossil removal permits, please refer to Rules and Regulations of the SBLC Chapter 11.
